Constitution

1 NAME

The name of the Club shall be "Leeds Morris Men", hereinafter referred to as The Club.

2 OBJECTS OF THE CLUB

To preserve, practice and perform English ceremonial dance and associated customs.

3 MEMBERSHIP

Membership is open to any male who has demonstrated, in both practice and performance, ability in the dance or music and commitment to the Club. Men may be elected to membership at any General Meeting of the Club. An individual not normally eligible for membership of the Club may be elected to Honorary Membership by a General Meeting. Membership is normally for life, but:

  1. A General Meeting of the Club may accept a member's resignation.
  2. A General Meeting of the Club may, for good and suficient reason, suspend or terminate membership of any member. Any such member has a right to be heard by a General Meeting before the final decision is made.
  3. Membership may be suspended by a General Meeting if a member makes no contact with the Club for 3 years.
The club may require ordinary members to pay a subscription of an amount to be determined by a General Meeting.

4 THE OFFICERS

The day to day operation of the Club shall be the responsibility of the Officers. The elected Officers shall be Squire, Bagman and Treasurer who may coopt further Officers, including assistant officers and one or more foremen. Officers shall be elected for one year, but are eligible for re-election.

5 MEETINGS

The Officers shall meet as they deem necessary for the efficient operation of the Club.

An Annual General Meeting of the Club shall be held within 18 months of the previous AGM. The business to be included in the AGM shall be the election of Officers, the election of members, the approval of the preceding financial year's accounts and any other business.

An Extraordinary General Meeting may be called by a majority of the officers, by a General Meeting or by 5 members giving written notice to the Bagman including the subjects for discussion. Members shall receive 28 days notice of any General Meeting.

The quorum at a General Meeting shall be equal in number to at least two thirds of the number of current active members. At least half of those present must be current active members.

All votes at a General Meeting shall be decided by a simple majority of members present, except votes to amend this constitution or dissolve the Club which shall require a two thirds majority.

6 DISSOLUTION

The Club may be dissolved by a resolution passed by a two thirds majority of those attending a special General Meeting convened for the purpose. Such resolution should give instructions for the disposal of the Club's assets provided that assets remaining after settling all debts and liabilities shall not be distributed among the membership but shall be given or transferred to another charitable or voluntary body having objects similar to some or all of the objects of the Club, or, if this proves impossible, to some other charitable purpose.
