Yellow the key colour?

Two piercing blue eyes shone up, catching his. With a fragile smile, "Sorry" she said softly, " I would move, but I like to watch the Bar you see"

Was it the light or some sort of prejudice that had been inborn in him since early childhood? He wasn’t sure. Somehow the girl with the blue eyes looked yellow. Too many late nights? Japanese genes or merely tight undergarments? He wasn’t’ sure – but did it matter? Those blue eyes would melt a contact lense at 3 metres. It wouldn’t matter either that the buffet was heavily laden with garlic bread. Men were always attracted to fresh perspiration laced with a whiff of garlic from all areas.

‘Would you mind therefore if I could watch the bar with you?’ he simpered, ‘anything is better than actually listening to a training evening. ‘ And with that he neatly lowered his posterior onto the seat next to hers, rapidly trying to think of witty and amusing things to say. He was disturbed by her colour though – she really was yellow.

‘Good evening everyone – and thank you all for coming. Training is a very important feature of Kissy-Kissy Ltd as we are a people company so it is vital that all of us function to the maximum of our capability…’ The training evening had begin.

‘Tonight I am going to talk to you about colour. All of you will tonight take the Luscher colour test. A simple test that takes minutes to complete, the Luscher Functional Psychology colour test is used by psychologists and precision therapists worldwide. It indicates personal stress levels against a national scale, shows natural strengths and weaknesses and helps to gain an understanding of deep-seated emotional problems. Improvement or deterioration in health can be measured over a period of time with this test, and future trends can be spotted well before any physical manifestation of disease. ‘

Paul groaned. Not another test. There were too many tests in life as it was. Further along the row he espied Mickey Scatts lighting up another cigar. Gosh how he hated cigars! And that Mickey bloke – super slick, always going on about his made to measure underwear ‘especially imported from Poland’. Yuck. The world could do without those kinds of people. Paul didn’t really know what it was. Maybe the garlic. The thought of another test. The cigar smoke. Being next to a yellow-blue fantasy – and in his chair too. Somehow he felt queasy, downright sick even. His skin began to change colour (or at least he felt ‘yellowish’).

Frantically he reached for his jacket and slipped out of the room – just as the colour tests were being handed out. He would never know that the blue-eyed Amazon would match yellow with red and that she would be described as: “..an impulsive figure, prone to making quick decisions; constantly in a mating mood. Current behaviour suggests that sudden amorous behaviour tonight will lead to long term benefits…..”

He had missed his chance that night! Hunched over the toilet basin, spouting yellow unmentionables into the sink, romance was the last thing on his mind. A kaleidoscope of innards spewed into the bowl – how he hated these training evenings!

“Thank you all for completing the test…” The talk was continuing. Paul could just about catch the gist through the washroom walls…. “I also urge you all, when you go back to work, to ‘Think yellow’ According to Lüscher, the characteristic feature of the colour yellow is the brightness that reflects the light and thus radiates in all directions, a radiant cheerfulness. Yellow means uninhibited expansion, release. Psychologically, yellow means release from everything that is heavy, depressing, and restrictive. Also, Yellow is constantly pressing forward towards something new and modern, into the future. Together with other colour shades, yellow was attributed to a so-called drive syndrome because its connection with motivation to greater performance and its deliberate but still affective outward orientation is obvious."

As Paul viewed the remnants of a rushed toasted egg lunch, garlic bread and expensive second-hand cigar smoke he somehow felt that he too would be able to remember the key colour….
