Crows hide mussels!

We have often seen carrion crows pick up mussels and drop them on the stones on the shore line of the Basin to break them open. Recently, however, they have been seen hiding the mussels in the vegetation of the marshland and retrieve them several days later. They eat them immediately, so the mussels have presumably died and the shells have fallen open making them an easy meal. Clever birds eh?
