| Rising early, we travelled to Nairobi by bus. Alison and I both
bought loaves from Malindi Cottages before we left. The loaves were sliced white bread, in
clear plastic bags, printed with the name of the company. The fact that the plastic bags
were clear allowed us to see that there were ants crawling all over the bread, but not
before some had escaped and bitten Alison. |
| There were three highlights to the journey. Firstly, we saw
giraffes by the side of the road, as we travelled through Tsavo National Park. Secondly,
we saw Kilimanjaro in the distance, the snow almost looking like clouds in the sky, with
the outline barely visible. Thirdly (arguably a lowlight, rather than a highlight), Claire was sick when the bus stopped for a rest break. |
| The bus having dropped us off on the Mombasa Road, we proceeded to
walk to the Sheepfold Centre, carrying our rucksacks on sunburned shoulders. The day at
the luxury resort had relaxed peoples attitudes to suntan lotion, as well as
relaxing their minds. |
| After being welcomed back by Francis, Becky, Almas, Sammy and the
rest of the Sheepfold staff, we told them some of the details of our trip. Then, following
a late dinner, we had a short discussion/reflection on Appropriate Development. We had
seen many examples of inappropriate development in Garsen, such as the unused water tower
and a borehole that failed to go deep enough to avoid saltwater. |
| The boys moved to their new accommodation on the first floor. Paul
got into bed, only to fall through it. Fortunately, I hadnt yet got into the bunk
below. We secured Pauls bed but Tim, being on the other top bunk, decided to take no
chances and moved his mattress to the floor. |
