Weetabix with peanut butter sandwiches for breakfast, followed by ABC 1.jpg (151808 bytes)devotions in small groups. We visited Dagoretti Children’s Centre for disabled, abandoned or orphaned children. It is run by Feed the Children Kenya. An Abandoned Baby Centre adjacent to the children’s centre had been opened the day before by Michael Jackson’s brother. After a short time playing with the babies, we helped out in different ways. Some helped change, or play with, the babies. Some helped in the kitchen. Tim and I helped with the laundry. I helped Florence (25) dry, hang, fold and sort clothes. Tim and Esther did most of the dirty nappy washing. Esther wanted us to write to her son, with a view to him visiting us in Britain, so we ended up exchanging addresses.

After a quick lunch at home (Sheepfold), we visited the New Life Centre for AbandonedABC 2.jpg (182713 bytes) Babies. This had even more of an American feel to it. They try to find adoption parents for the babies, before they are 4. They have their own Intensive Care Unit and, as with the other centres we visited, many of the babies have gone from being HIV+ to HIV-. This is because they no longer have their mothers' antibodies, having stopped drinking their mothers' breast milk. Most of the team helped to feed the babies, providing respite for the centre workers. A few of us did some outdoor repair work. I helped to create a new sign for them.
On the way back home, we stopped to buy postcards and chocolate rations in a supermarket.SCREAM 1.jpg (182538 bytes) The selection of postcards was very disappointing and we felt very uncomfortable as we were herded into the supermarket under very close supervision. It made the team feel quite threatened, unnecessarily as it turned out. After leading the Bible Study at SCREAM, we sang and played games with the boys there.

After tea, I checked the email. I’d had a reply from my mum and my sister. I read the manual for ‘Quicken’, while the rest of the team emailed – another late night. It turned out that they had the personal version of ‘Quicken’, instead of the small business version, so there was no need to install it.
