The Pub (take a Look)
The Red Lion Inn dates back over 1000 years to a least 1188 (link)
and is probably much older, making it the oldest pub in Powys. It is unique in that it retains all its' olde world charm. With its' original huge cruck beams dominating the bar, and as such has been listed by CAMRA as
one of the most interesting pub interiors in Britain.
The pub offers a wide selection of meals with a constantly changing menu. This together with the quality and quantity of food offered has made it one of the best hostelries for miles around. Real Ale is offered
straight from the barrel together with a wide selection of other beers and spirits all served in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.
The landlords, Adrian and Lorna Foster took on the Red Lion in 1994 after it had been closed for a while and have turned it in to a thriving fun pub, hosting such diverse events as the World Tippit Championships to live
outdoor music and barbecues. If asked they can also recount tales of local murders and miracles in the church yard opposite, or just point you in the direction of some beautiful walks.
Llanafan, itself, where the Red Lion is situated, boasts an ancient Church yard and the remains of a 2000 year old village clearly visible. Not bad for a village less than a quarter of a mile wide.!
