KIBWORTH BAND

The summer period is over, holidays are a thing of the past and the Alliance and Leicester Kibworth Band have commenced their autumn and winter concert and contest programme.

The John Cleveland College in Hinckley was the first venue on 2 September and on 16 September the band had two engagements, when they band played at COBA Plastics open day and then the band performed a 'Last Night of the Proms' type concert at Scraptoft Golf Club in the evening.

The following day they provided music and the accompaniment to the hymns for the Battle of Britain Service on behalf of the Great Glen RAFA.

Finally on 30 September at St James the Greater Church the band will be giving the second of their 90th Anniversary programmes. This concert will be in aid of The Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal. The compere will be Stephen Butt of BBC Radio Leicester, and the band will be supported by the Heart of England Chorus. The music will include compositions by Walton and Strauss. Doors open at 6.45 pm for a 7.30 pm start. There are concessionary ticket prices. Tickets from Ted Smith at Granny Smith's who can also supply details of a free coach.

In October, the Alliance and Leicester Kibworth Band will be very busy. On 20-22 October, the band will be in London where they will be competing for the National Championship title of the 1st Section in which the band will play the overture. The Frogs of Aristophanes by Granville Bantock.

Eight days later the band will be hosting the Television New Zealand Band, who are this years New Zealand Champions for two days. This visit will culminate in the two Bands joining together in giving a concert in the McKinley Theatre Kettering, on 31 October at 7.30 pm. Needless to say, there will be a social get together the following evening prior to the band returning to New Zealand on 2 October.

Looking a bit further away in November the band will be giving concerts Kibworth Golf Club, Burton Latimer Church, and also The City of Leicester Festival Contest.

Then, in December the band will be contesting in Aylesbury, concert making in Kibworth on 8/9, and accompanying the carols at the Lord Mayor of Leicester's Christmas concert, the year coming to an end with carolling around Kibworth Village from 10 December until Christmas Day.
