Politics, how I hate politics. Why do they have to get in the way of real issues? I am referring to recent propaganda put around Kibworth by our political parties. Whilst the politicians are fighting each other, the real enemies are sneaking in via the back door with their plans to build on our green fields.
Firstly, we got 'In touch', from the Conservatives. Their headline 'Now it's 550 houses?..' sounded promising until I read further. Initially the Liberal Democrats received a bashing, and then our ex District Councillor Peter Burfoot got a clip around the ears and one or two kicks in more painful places. What are the Conservatives doing or thinking? Their leaflet doesn't say except that they appear to support maximum housing. This from an editor who was recently campaigning to 'Save Our Countryside'.
Next we got 'Focus' from the Liberal Democrats. Here they started to give us some facts about the housing but, surprise, surprise, they went on to tell us what a lot of porkies the Conservatives tell us and how we should not trust them.
Please both of you stop fighting each other and join forces to fight the common enemy, the builders and planners who are determined to override our democratic rights.
Finally, I find the criticisms by the Conservatives of Peter Burfoot quite disgraceful. Peter put 120% into everything he did for Harcourt Parish Council, was always willing to take on additional tasks, was a source of great knowledge and he achieved a lot for which we should all be grateful. As a District Councillor he worked day and night to fight the housing proposals along with many other issues. He was responsible for reducing the housing from 550 to 330. To quote one parishioner "He has done more for Kibworth than his predecessors did in the last 50 years". I am NOT a Lib. Dem. but I appreciate what Peter did for Kibworth. Why can't other non-Lib Dems. acknowledge his efforts and concentrate their energies on matters that are important to us all? Politics, how I hate politics.
